While it has come to my attention that the McCabe Family has recently begun its blog, it is CERTAINLY not too soon to begin debate as to what team should be dubbed the official football team of the McCabe Family.
To be fair and unbiased, I think that all parties should submit rational points why they believe a particular NFL football team (e.g., Philadelphia Eagles) merit consideration. Obviously, someone should NOT submit (a) teams who recently won a Super Bowl just because their QB lucked out not playing any playoff games in his own stadium, or (b)teams whose defense improved only because they stole a defensive coordinator from a rival, and thereby the rival's playbook.
With these rules in place, there are 3 possible teams that merit consideration: (1) Green Bay Packers--they signify a time-tested tradition, a winning attitude, but they are too far away to even get excited about; (2)New York Jets--they are a young and hungry team whose close proximity merits strong consideration, but alas, have not achieved a post-season buzz worth mentioning; (3)Philadelphia Eagles--they have an Irish QB, their colors are green--just like the McCabe coat of arms, and they have the close proximity coupled with a winning post-season tradition that turns all their naysayers GREEN with envy.
But don't take my word for it. Just ask the family patriarch, who has rooted for them and considers them a great team. Or the family matriarch, Irma McCabe, who watched her first football game when the Eagles upended the Giants 23-11 to drive them out of the playoffs AGAIN. Her reaction to the game: "It was an exciting game to watch".

Not Cool at all. Robby
ReplyDeleteLet us consider the copious ammount of BLUE eyes in the McCabe family and consider some BLUE teams.. who also are pretty close to home... I know ben and the 3 little McCabe sisters and JPIII have got my back and they are pretty cute and hard to say "NO" to so maybe if i present those 5 to the matriarch and patriarch we can reach a decision
ReplyDeleteHey that's not fair, just because a majority of the people in this family have blue eyes doesn't mean we should vote for a blue team. I mean I have brown eyes does that mean I should be voting for Cleveland Browns, ah no it does not. I second the motion for the Philadelphia Eagles as our team. Abby
ReplyDeleteAbby,
ReplyDeleteThat is a fair point. No NFL teams have "hazel" in their color schemes, which would automatically exclude alot of people from any team consideration.--Dad
Pete,
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean that by "blue teams close to home" you are offering the Buffalo Bills as a possibility?
I suppose the only Christian thing to do would be to adopt the Detroit Lions as the family team, since so doing would be the football equivalent of a 'corporal act of mercy'
ReplyDeleteUncle Pete
The Patriots have blue in their colors but I have to face the reality that the Giants are the runaway favorite. Sorry Eagles fans.
ReplyDeleteUncle John
Uncle John,
ReplyDeleteWas there a revelation that I missed? Giants runaway favorites? Oh yeah, they DID runaway from the post-season pretty quickly this year!
This is the way Grandpa and Grandma would most likely see the situation:
ReplyDeleteEagles 3%
Patriots 2.5%
Clevand Browns 0.5 %
And in an overwhelmingly majority
NYG 96%
So let us raise our glasses to a a winning organization for although we should be charitable we also should strive for greatness in our daily lives as a family... Super Bowl MVP ELi would be a great example of over coming adversery and achieving this asforementioned greatness... we should not idolize a quarterback who does not realize the rules of an overtime football game nor has the skill to win an overtime game.. Alas i believe the decision is easy:)... pete
pete, 3+2.5+.5+96= 102%
ReplyDeletei dont know if someone who can't even do simple math can make an accurate decision about something like the family football team.-anna
whoa whoa whao!!! anna now come on now I understand eagle fans and the eagle team for that matter only cheer/play 100% but the blue teams in this leauge of which the McCabe family should emulate at least gives 102% in every situation... but i do honor your math skills :)
ReplyDeleteso let me see pete, this season the "blue teams" played at 102% but they didn't get as far as the eagles who according to you played only 100%, so you tell me whose the better team? Abby
